Aren't first days always exciting? Oh well.. I think mine fell in between though...
Here's how my first day went....
6.45 am - I officially woke up. But truth be told, I was tossing and turning the moment I 'slept'
the previous night. And my mother woke me up at 5.15 am!! Can you believe it?! She
assumed I had to wake up at that time, thinking that I'll be late for school...
7.30 am - I left my home. Took about a 10 - 15 min walk to the train station (oh yeah... Trans
Island buses are THAT unreliable). Anyway, I stood all the way to Boon Lay (another
additional 45 mins). I didn't think much about school during my journey, in fact I
finished reading Revelations while at that! Was thinking more about my Christian life
then... To think about non-believers suffering, you can't help but to feel a drive to
save them all. Especially when they ARE your family. A few questions to ask though..
8.15 am - Arrived at Boon Lay Interchange. Needed to take bus 179 to reach school. At that
time, reality kicked in. I was alone, a lone freshie who needed some company. I admit
that I felt pretty pathetic sitting alone in the bus, trying to tell myself to be cool cuz all
I needed was my trusty MP3 player with me. Apart from God, I find solace by
listening to music too..
9.10 am - Dropped of at the nearest bus stop to the Nanyang Auditorium. Did I mention that
near actually means a 10 min hike up a really steep hill?? Oh well, at least I wasn't
lost.. Haha and I rushed off to the loo the moment I stepped into the hall...
9. 25 am - Found a seat in the audi (and yeah, I sat ALONE)... But soon, the hall filled up, and
thank God I made a new friend with the girl who sat beside me - Kaiting (who was
coincidentally from TP too!). I really thank God for blessing me at the point in time
because I truly felt out of place until she came.
9.30 am - Start of the Freshmen Welcome Ceremony. The deans & directors that spoke on stage
were constantly telling us that being in a uni is not just about studying... etc etc... They
kept promoting about love blossoming in the Yun Nam Garden (argh! Cheesy!!!). I
guess they're really doing what the government wants to do to all men and women in
this country..
MORE COUPLES = MORE BABIES = INCREASE IN POPULATION GROWTH RATE
Gee... that's the reason why they're trying to put more freshies in hostels.. to get
FRESH with each other I assume.. But you know what? NTU just made headlines -
NTU freshmen break record for largest number of blind dates. Haha... really... I'm
laughing my butt off...
11.30 am - End of programme, time to wait for 2 pm to come (ADM's orientation). So me and
Kaiting walked about school, looking at the different CCA booths.. Couldn't believe
my eyes, there were just too many booths, beckoning newbies into their midst. And
here were the more unusual ones - Golf, Wine Appreciation, Ice Skating, some food
lovers club (where they go ard Singapore & overseas eating all they can)...
But I scooted to Christian Fellowship (might join), and this other booth representing
bands that jam (represented by the name OVERDRIVE). Oh boy, I signed up for
that immediately, and penned my position (we had to) as a possible vocalist. And
yeah, one of the band was jamming on stage (and I still wonder why the crowd
wasn't big cuz they were good), they did 'This Love - Maroon 5' and 'Iris - Goo Goo
Dolls'. Btw, I was drooling at the keyboardist.. HAHAHA man.. He was great!!! He's
like.. Wahhhhh.. Hunk Factor... with that basic black tee and cool jeans... *drools*
2 pm - Kaiting and I parted ways, had to make my way down to LT 24 for my course's
orientation. As usual, I was the first to arrive, sat alone in the cold theatre. And slowly,
the place started getting crowded and noisy (with the JC girls sitting in bunches and
yakking away). Was really glad to see 2 familiar faces from TP (both girls from Visual
Communications), and though we weren't familiar with each other in TP, we are now!!
Anyways, they're Aidah and Lena.
The faculty took us around our new classrooms. Boy... were they SWANKY!!!! So posh!
So classy! So... designer-ish!!!!! Somehow it reminds me of an uber cool bachelor
pad. Two drawbacks though, quite claustrophobic to walk ard there, and its ultra hard to
find the place. Anyway, those are just our foundation classes, the new school will be up
by next April. Dear me, I think the new school will look even swankier with glass all
over... And btw, our current facilities includes a PANTRY!!! FOoooooodddd.... and a
lounge for us to chill.. ahhh... Btw, I felt that our orientation was pretty OTT, cuz we had
a buffet dinner (not the usual chinese food you get, cuz we had bbqed pork ribs, and all
the food were catered from Bobby Rubinos!!) And just imagine, a harpist, pulling the
strings of a golden harp in the corner... what soothing music... tsk tsk...
Oh well.. that's all for today (I left school at sixish).. It started dull, but it ended nicely...
